Our History

Phi Kappa Theta represents the union of two older fraternities: Phi Kappa and Theta Kappa Phi. The two fraternities had 63 chapters between them when they joined forces to form Phi Kappa Theta on April 29, 1959, the seventieth anniversary of the founding of the original Phi Kappa Fraternity.

We were first founded as Theta Psi Kappa Fraternity of Case Institute of Technology (C.I.T.) in 1938. On May 31, 1941, the fraternity became the Alpha Beta chapter when it joined Phi Kappa Fraternity. On April 29, 1959, the national fraternities of Phi Kappa and Theta Kappa Phi merged into Phi Kappa Theta, and the chapter followed suit, becoming Ohio Alpha Beta. We have lived in our house at 11016 Magnolia Drive since 1955, and we own both the house and the land. CWRUnet, our fiber-optic network, was installed into our house in August 1994.

We are an award-winning chapter, both on campus at Case Western Reserve University, and in our national fraternity. During the 54th National Convention in Seattle, Washington, our chapter received the the McSweeney Chapter Excellence Award for Mideast Province. Our history of awards include:
